Still in Chiang Mai

So I'm still in Chiang Mai. It really is a great quiet town. I'm getting used to the heat and the people aregenerally very freindly. There is lots to do here, and so we've been keeping busy. During the day, we'll walk around, visiting temples and that kind of stuff. We also visited the local zoo, and Doi Suthep (a mountain temple with a Naga-staircase that has 300 steps).
The night market is beginning to be a familiar haunt for us, but there IS a lot to see.
We took a cooking class yesterday and ate entirely too much. But it was good food, AND it was satisfying to know we had cooked everything ourselves. Then at night, we went to see some Muay Thai Boxing. Violent stuff, but highly ritualized. I apologise for the blurry picture but that's the best one of the lot. One guy got a knee to the face and ended up with a considerable cut on the bridge of his nose. The ring was taken over by a Ladyboy cabaret show afterwards.

We'll be here for 2 more days before hopping on a train down to Bangkok, and immediately jumping further still to the Gulf of Thailand's islands and beaches. We'll be hanging out around Ko Pa Ngan and Ko Tao (But mostly Ko Tao). This is where the action is set in Alex Garland's The Beach, which I've just finished reading.

Thanks for the nice pictures. You'll certainly have to show us these new skills when you get back by cooking at least one exotic meal. Enjoy the beach! Are you planning to do some snorkeling? To quote an online travel adviser: "The number one way to stay safe on Ko Tao is to not rent a motorbike. Motorbike accidents are very common, and almost unavoidable given the fact that people drive them drunk, on the left side of the road (unless they're drunk), and in the dark."
So watch out for zig-zagging motor-bikes. Happy birthday! Andre

I wouldn't know the first thing about driving a motorbike, so no worries there. besides, The Thais are stricter than the vietnamese, I do need a license to drive here.

Merci pour les voeux. Pour ce qui est des tsunamis, on va etre dans le golfe de la Thailande... le tsunami c'est produit sur l'autre cote (Adaman)
