The Beach

We found a place to stay for a decent price. It's on a busier beach, but the tourists here are more interested in going off scuba diving with their own diving outfits than lounging around on the beach itself, so it's really quite quiet despite the number of dive rental stores and guesthouses. We're staying at the Big Fish Dive resort (http://www.bigfishresort.com/), which is right on the beach itself. The sand is coarse in parts, or patted hard, but I don't mind at all. There is no surf at all, and the water stays shallow for quite a while (almost all of the bay) and is therefore quite warm. Cooling off is achieved by dipping in, and then standing in the wind. The night life here is also rather low key, although the smell of grass is present in some areas. The road is a major hazard. I can barely walk ang it without worrying about getting squished by a passing pickup truck or knocked over by a drunken tourist on a motorbike. I just can't fathom trying to drive on it myself. That would be suicide. We're exploring town right now, trying to find books to trade. Then it'll be beach lounging again this afternoon.

Nick: Your trip sounds exciting, but there is no way you could convince me to try eating bugs. We want to wish you a very "HAPPY BIRTHDAY". Hope you are celebrating somewhere interesting. Love, Linda and Fred.

Allo mon grand,

Cheers, Mom
