Drenched...

So it's Songkran, the Thai new year... and that means getting wet.
Kids with super soakers, old ladies at food stalls splashing a glass of water playfully... the rain gods are even in on it. We visitied Wat Pho this afternoon, since I'd made a promise to myself that I'd have to go see the giant reclining Buddha again (although I didn't expect I'd see it again so soon). We'd managed to avoid getting spashed or soaked on the way there, but the rain gods wouldn't have any of it. A deluge of biblical proportions (ok, I may be exaggerating) came down upon us, and so Elise and I had to sit huddled at one of the locked temple gates for over a half hour. Wasn't so bad. We did get soaked afterwards though, ironically enough. The one thing we feared was the flour. Turns out that some people like to chuck flour on wet people, which just makes a big mess and really goes against the whole point of Songkran, which is to wash away the past year's sins or tresspasses.

But overall, this whole water splashing thing is all in good fun, and everyone seems to take it for what it is. Besides, it's kind of nice to get splashed on a hot day. I just hope the water pistol toting hordes will take pity on us when we're trying to make our way to the airport with all of our gear on Saturday.
