Ok, So picture me in the dark, in the vietnamese jungle, with a gun in my hand and some sweat beading down my forehead...
Now replace "gun"with "lazer gun", and "vietnamese jungle" with "lazer-tag arena". And there you have it, clear as day: combat in Vietnam.
We met up with Sebastien, ther son of Pauline Levac-Ranger (who was my principal in elementary). If you're curious about this weird connection, msend me an email and I'll clear up any confusion about this really weird series of coincidences and improbability. We went for some beer and food at a pub in Hanoi where his girlfriend works. At one point, his mates come up to him and ask him about the lazer-tag team. His ankle was bummed out and they were short one player, so I volunteered. 4 Brits, one crazy Russian and little old me against a team of Frenchies. It was a massacre, in our favour.: we beat them by 3000 points (almost double). It was interesting to play on a team... I've always played lazer tag solo, shouting orders and warnings to each other really added to the game. Having one of the brits swearing and intimidating one of the enemy was kinda cool too. Means we could chase him out of our territory.
Anyways, it was an awesome night. We went back to the pub for some more beer and chicken wings. Oh, and just to make things seem just that much homelier: they sold poutine. Yes, with gravy. It lacked massive amounts of cheese, but it was still respectable.

That's a nice break from the tourist/anthropologist duties. Glad you enjoyed yourself with new bud's. Glad also that you recovered promptly from the stuck malaria pill syndrome. That's one mean, concentrated dose! Once your food tract is irritated, you may have to watch what you eat ; ordinary (for Asia) food may work on the irritation some more. If in doubt, get yourself a jar of Pepto-Bismol or like product to coat the affected parts and give them a chance to recover. Gawd, I sound like your medically-smart mother...
Have a nice trek up into the North and I'm looking forward to more pictures when you find a high-speed connection somewhere. The wind chill was minus 42 when I walked to the bus stop his morning.
Cheers! AG
