50km on a Motorcycle.

Yesterday was a big day. It started out kind of heavy but finished well. In the morning, Elise and I paid a visit to the sister of some friends of Elise's family. We came bearing gifts, which represented a LOT of money for her. She seemed a bit uncomfortable, and so did we. She has probably had the worse bout of bad luck on the planet. Not only has last year's typhoon ruined much, but she has also lost her husband. Reading the various condolences and letters was a bit difficult for both parties. Big thanks goes to Hoa for acting as a translator.

After this meeting, I pushed onwards to the ruins of My Son. My motorbike driver was the same guy as two years ago (one of Hoa's friends). At 50km from Da Nang, it takes about an hour to get there. The sky was overcast, and the temperature was a bit cool while riding, but it got very hot at My Son, due to the fact that the ruins are located in a kind of bowl/valley in the mountains. This keeps the humidity trapped. Though not nearly as impressive as Angkor, My Son isworth the trip. Most of the sites were bombed to the ground by Nixon, so not much is left. The vegetation is also omnipresent in the overbearing humidity.

We'll be staying in Da Nang for a couple more days before taking the train to Hanoi. Stay tuned.

So did you go surfing (Brice de Nice)or sea-kayaking to the islands? Hope you have pictures and can up-load when the opportunity presents.

Comment sont les vagues en mer de Chine? Et le surf? Avez-vous commencé à prendre les pilules contre la malaria? et les mauvais rêves?

I did go surfing, and it was 'Brice de Nice' styles (not so hot). I didn't get hurt, but I also didn't really get to stand up.
Still waiting for proper connection speed for photos.

Les vagues sont presentes mais pas trop grosses. Ca fait deux semaines que je prends les pillules, et j'ai pas d'effets secondaires. Donc pas de mauvais reves.
